Where is the clipboard on iPhone?
The iPhone clipboard has no app or folder. Learn where it lives, how to see what's on it, how to clear it, and how to keep more than one item.
If you are looking for a clipboard app or folder on your iPhone, you won’t find one. The clipboard is built into iOS, invisible, and holds one item at a time: the last text, link or image you copied.
How to see what’s on your clipboard
You see the clipboard by pasting it:
- Open any app with a text field: Notes, Messages, the Safari address bar.
- Tap and hold in the field.
- Tap Paste.
What appears is your clipboard. If Paste doesn’t show up, the clipboard is empty.
Copy and paste faster with gestures
- Copy: pinch in with three fingers.
- Cut: pinch in with three fingers twice.
- Paste: pinch out with three fingers.
- Undo: swipe left with three fingers.
How to clear the clipboard
There is no “clear” button. Copy something harmless, like a single space or one word, and it replaces whatever was there. Useful after copying a password or bank details on a shared device.
The “Allow Paste” prompt
When an app pastes something it didn’t copy itself, iOS asks for permission or shows a banner. You can decide per app: go to Settings › Apps, pick the app, and set Paste from Other Apps to Allow, Ask or Deny.
Universal Clipboard: iPhone to Mac and iPad
Copy on your iPhone, paste on your Mac. It works when both devices are signed in to the same Apple Account and have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Handoff turned on. The item only stays available for a short while, and it’s still a single item.
How to keep more than one item
Because the clipboard keeps only the latest copy, everything before it is lost. To keep a history you need a clipboard manager. Copyo saves what you copy and puts the whole history on a keyboard, so you can paste any earlier item in any app. See how to see clipboard history on iPhone for free alternatives too.
Questions
Is there a clipboard app on iPhone?
No. The clipboard is part of iOS itself, not an app, so there is nothing to open. You see its contents by pasting.
How do I clear the clipboard on iPhone?
Copy something harmless, like a single space, to replace what's there. iOS keeps only one item, so the old one is gone.
Does the iPhone clipboard sync with my Mac?
Yes, with Universal Clipboard. When both devices use the same Apple Account with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Handoff on, what you copy on one can be pasted on the other for a short time.
